How a Teenager from Nahariya Went from Falling Behind to One of the Highest Grades in His Class

Semyon was doing two kinds of learning at once. As a new immigrant attending high school in Nahariya, he was working to master Hebrew while also trying to keep pace with a demanding after-school technology course. His language classes meant he regularly arrived late. He was the only student in his group from his school. Each missed lesson added more material to catch up on, and each unfamiliar face made the social challenge harder.
At the beginning of the year, the team worried he might drop out. It was a reasonable concern: he was managing a language barrier, an unfamiliar peer group and a growing academic gap, all at the same time. For Semyon, the question was not whether he was capable of learning technology. It was whether he would have a fair chance to show it.
He stayed. With sustained effort, determination and close attention from his instructor, Semyon worked through the lessons he had missed. Slowly, the gap began to close. Then came a result that changed the way his year could be told: on the latest test, he earned one of the highest grades in his class.
The achievement was more than a test score. The student who had started out alone also formed close friendships within the group. According to his account, the young people he met there became his closest friends.
Semyon’s story is about what happens when opportunity comes with the support needed to use it. A young person who could easily have disappeared from a challenging course instead found academic success and a place to belong.
