The Robotics Team from Yeruham That Reached the National Finals

Amit Cohen

Two years ago, Yeruham did not have a robotics team. This year, its team of 12 students reached the national finals of a leading youth robotics competition.

Starting with Almost Nothing

The team started in a classroom with a few borrowed kits. With the support of BU donors, the students received a dedicated workspace, new equipment and two mentors from the engineering industry.

Months of Work

The team met three times a week, including evenings and Fridays. Each student had a role: mechanics, programming, design or presentation. When their robot failed a test two weeks before the regional competition, they rebuilt a large part of it.

Competing at the National Level

At the regional competition, the team finished in the top three and qualified for the finals. In the finals, they competed against teams from some of the country's largest schools and received an award for teamwork.

"Everyone expected us to lose quickly. We proved that talent exists everywhere." – Shira, 16

More Than a Competition

Beyond technical skills, the students learned to plan, work under pressure and recover from failure. Several younger students have already asked to join next year's team.
